Integrated Devices

Motivated by the unprecedented advancement in emerging photovoltaic (PV) technologies over the past few years, a relatively new and growing area of research has been recently explored where PV cells are utilized as an energy source for integrated systems. Briefly, the unique properties, excellent PV performances and low cost of third-generation PV systems, particularly perovskite solar cells, have facilitated their integration into a broad range of practical applications, including tandem solar cells, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs), space applications, X-ray detectors, integration with batteries and supercapacitors for energy storage systems, and PV-driven catalysis, but their developments are still in their infancy.

For instance, BIPVs have been recognized as a pivotal technology that enables the innovative utilization of renewable solar energy on other building areas, such as windows and exterior walls. This enables a large surface area of the building to be used for solar harvesting. Through ARC DECRA project (DE220100521), we are working on designing high efficiency semitransparent perovskite solar cells with outstanding stabilities by developing cheap and plentiful electrode materials, based primarily on functional carbon and 2D nanomaterials, for smart solar windows.

We are also interested in exploring and advancing the applicability of perovskite materials in other next-generation photonic, electronic and energy applications.
